People Awards - entries are now closed
Within the Planning Awards for people, we seek to identify exemplary practice in the planning consultancy sector, among young planners and in learning and development (recognising students, planning schools and employers).
Planning consultants play a crucial role in the success of efforts to improve the environmental, social and economic quality of life. Consultancy involvement is often a key element in getting development or regeneration projects off the ground, formulating policy or uncovering new and better ways of setting about the task of planning. Every year, planning consultancies feature prominently among the teams behind the winning entries in the annual RTPI Planning Awards, and planners working in consultancies account for a growing proportion of the RTPI’s membership.
All types of planning consultancy activity and businesses are equally eligible and entries may be based on a broad range of different types of work or on a narrower specialist area. Generalist and specialist entries will be given equal consideration. The emphasis in the assessment process will be on the quality of work, not on the size, scale, value or geographical spread of projects undertaken or on the commercial performance.
The Young Planner of the Year Award exists to seek out and acclaim the brightest planners under 35 in the profession. Nominations are accepted from young planners themselves as well as colleagues, friends and members of the Institute, setting out what the entrant has achieved already and promises for the future, and how they would promote planning as a professional activity should they win.
Planning education and training is vital in producing skilled, expert planners who contribute to the profession and to the creation of high quality places. The RTPI Planning Awards highlight excellence in this area from teachers, learners and employers.
The Award for Excellence in Teaching & Learning is for accredited planning schools and staff teaching accredited planning courses who can demonstrate they have enhanced the teaching and learning experience in an innovative, creative way that can be used as a model of good practice. The Planning Awards also recognise outstanding planning students, who have shown their in-depth understanding of spatial planning and the ability to apply that in practice. Support from organisations who employ planners is crucial to maintaining skills and knowledge in the field, as well as adding value to the organisation itself, so all RTPI Learning Partners are eligible for the Employer Award for Excellence in Learning & Development.
The judges reserve the right to decline to make an award in any category in the event that no submission of sufficient merit is received. The judges’ decision on any matter relating to the awards will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into on their decision.
